Djecji Vrtic Varazdin, Croatia

Kindergarten Varaždin is the oldest and largest kindergarten in Varaždin. Varaždin is a city located in the north-west Croatia, of a rich cultural history, with 40 000 inhabitants. 85 teachers, 5 members of expert team and 40 administrative workers take care of upbringing and education of 450 children from 1 to 7 years of age. Our Kindergarten has celebrated 70 years of existence, and we are working on 8 different locations in the city. Sizes of courtyards of 8 of our facilities (each of which is 7000 m2 of size) give opportunity of day-to-day stay out in the open which we use for different activities.

In our pedagogical practice we give a lot of attention to different pedagogical approaches. A child is in the focus of our interest, and in the focus of a child’s interest in play. We seek to make that play interesting for preschool children. Teachers work hard on developing challenging incentives. That way children in our Kindergarten have the opportunity to do STEM activities (by using web tools in eTwinning projects), play with clay, but also to organize the vegetable garden.
